OCD STOP! is designed to help you understand more about obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and to learn strategies to better
manage OCD. You will learn range of techniques to help you change your
behaviour and thinking styles, to put you on the road to improving the
management of OCD.
This
course is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and has been developed
by psychologists and researchers from the National eTherapy Centre.
What to Expect?
The
OCD STOP! program has 12 modules that you can do in your own time and have
access to for 12 months.
Our program combines
Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) with exposure and response prevention therapy
(ERPT) which is considered the most effective treatment for OCD. It
provides information about OCD and introduces skills and strategies that can
help you to:
·
Improve
your understanding of OCD
·
Learn
practical techniques to manage anxiety in OCD
·
Discover
ways to manage intrusive thoughts
·
Be
guided through exposure and how to manage your responses
·
Learn
how to maintain the gains from the course.
CBT for OCD can reduce or
eliminate the obsessions and/or rituals associated with feared situations by
teaching you how to approach those situations without performing those mental
and behavioural actions.
How do I use the OCD
STOP! program?
You
can enroll in the OCD STOP! program after signing up
for an account with Mental Health Online.
You
can work through the OCD STOP! program by yourself or with support from one of our therapists. You can use the program in a flexible way, in your own time, and in a way that fits into your week. To get the most out of the program, we recommend committing a few hours a week to learn from the program materials and to practice the skills and strategies they introduce.
Considering therapist support?
If you reside in Australia, you can also sign up to our free Therapist Assist option to access 12 weeks of support from our therapists while you use the program.
If you choose this option you will talk with one of our therapists over the phone before beginning your program. During your program you will receive weekly email support from your therapist. You will also have the option of adding up to four live sessions with your therapist via our secure video and chat platform.
Is this program right
for me?
The
OCD STOP! program may be most helpful for people who experience mild to moderate
OCD symptoms. It has been created for people who are:
·
Over
the age of 18 years
·
Australian
residents
You
can also complete our online mental health assessment called the e-PASS
which will make recommendations about the program that might be right for you.
If
you experience severe OCD symptoms you may like to talk to your GP or mental
health professional about whether the OCD STOP! program is right for you.
How do I get started?
Making
changes to support our mental health can be challenging and it takes time. We
recommend putting aside a few hours each week to read about and work on the
skills in the OCD STOP! program.
